I thank God for the New Orleans mission. They gave me shelter and food for 21 days. Also, they helped me to rediscover Jesus.
While I do not agree with many of their ideals, I appreciate God sending them in my way. Every day, in order to have a bed and eat, we had to go to Chapel.
Me, being my contrary self, listened to their interpretation of the Bible and was unable to reconcile it from what I remembered. Therefore, I grabbed a Bible and started reading.
As I read, I found myself growing closer to Jesus. Each verse called to my soul and transformed me into a new person. I began praying and was amazed that I received responses in signs -- Bible verses, some of the wonderful guest speakers at the mission, even in a song -- that not only helped me to realize God is real and loves me but my purpose here on Earth.
All the while, I had a comfortable bed to sleep in, was able to take a shower every night, and had two meals a day. Sure, we had beans more often than not. While I really wanted a big juicy hamburger, I thank Jesus that I did not go hungry.
