Is it normal that I feel sad?
- I no longer have to sleep -- with one eye open -- on the ground.
- No more worrying about the weather -- will it be cold, hot?; will it rain or the sun beam down on me.
- Never again will I wake up having to pee and scared I might not find a bathroom in time.
- Not carrying my things everywhere and having a reasonable expectation they will be there.
- A shower whenever I wish.
However to have these things, I had to leave New Orleans. Not only was I feeling like I made a difference for others. There is so much that I will miss.
- The many friends that I made.
- The sense of community that I have never found elsewhere.
- Being within walking distance to everything you various imagine -- from services to entertainment.
What does this move mean to my mission?
To be honest, I am not sure. I do have many stories of real people to share. Also, I can link to various sites as I find them. In addition, I can tell you about my own experiences.
In fact, I will be able to put in more time to my site.
However, I am no longer on the ground and things change on a daily bases out there. I have to ask for help from those in the city and am compiling a list of email addresses for this purpose.
Unfortunately, I am unable to listen and help in person. Part of me feels as I am abandoning those I promised to help. However, I realise I must help myself as well.
My Plea
For those on the ground; either as homeless or as one of those amazing individuals that assist the homeless; please feel free to leave comments or e-mail me at suzykinchen@gmail.com if you have anything to share:
- Stories That Spotlight The Homeless
- Takes of God's Grace -- individuals that help those in need in any way.
- Tales of trials that the homeless must endure.
- Resources for the homeless people -- rather it be a place to get a meal, clothing giveaways, healthcare, or anything you can think of.
For everyone else, read my stories with an open mind, share them with others, and understand that just because someone has falling on hard times, that does not mean that they are not HUMAN.
Also, feel free to comment and let me know what you think of my stories.
